SUV E-Bike Buying Guide
Five decisions matter. Everything else is preference.
1. Motor
Mid-drive only. Bosch Performance Line CX (85 Nm) is the category default; Brose S-MAG (90 Nm) and Panasonic GX Ultimate (95 Nm) are strong alternatives. For heavy riders or alpine terrain, torque matters more than peak wattage.
2. Battery
625 Wh is the sensible minimum, 750 Wh the sweet spot. Dual-battery options (up to 1250 Wh, e.g. Riese & Müller) only pay off for genuine long-distance touring.
3. Suspension
Full suspension adds comfort and control but also weight, price and maintenance. A quality air fork (100–120 mm) plus a suspension seatpost covers 80% of riders.
4. Equipment
Check what is actually included: rack rating (kg), light output (lux), ABS availability, and whether fenders survive real gravel use.
5. Budget
| €3,000–4,500 | Solid hardtail SUV, front suspension, full equipment |
|---|---|
| €4,500–6,500 | Full suspension crossover, premium motors |
| €6,500+ | Premium touring SUV: dual battery, ABS, belt drive options |
